I can't disown you...

I breathe in, I breathe out
You breathe in, you breathe out
Until it stops, once and for all.
I breathe in thoughts; I breathe out thoughts,
I express; I am impacted by your expression.
The air I breathe out, you breathe in,
Giving and receiving, offering and taking.
We cannot walk into a cafe without taking with us
The essence of those who sat at tables near us.
You are not only not different from me
You are part of me.
True, no matter your race, religion, politics or nationality.
You breathe me; I breathe you...
To pretend otherwise is ludicrous.

  1. This is insightful. I love the thought of connectedness with those around us. I'm built for community. It's arrogant to think that my life is an island and that I have not impacted those around me even if it's to sit next to them in a fast food restaurant where I'm choosing to be alone.

  2. Too true, Robyn. I have decided I need to see you because it has been too long since we've had a sit-down. Of course, I have come to this decision since I've moved home to South Carolina. Nevertheless, I would like to figure out a plan to visit with you. This year for sure.

  3. I often feel like the odd man out. I live in the Bible Belt (Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas) and am surrounded mostly by conservative, evangelical Christians and conservative, die-hard Republicans. I'm a progressive Christian who embraces the Democratic platform. Most of the people in Texas would label me with the awful (to them) word "liberal".

One of the things I often hear (and sometimes say it myself) is let's just "agree to disagree" ... but to be honest I am not always able to embrace that idea whole-heartedly.

There are some things I just can't passively "agree to disagree" about!

No one is an island. We are all connected. Some things are too important to "agree to disagree" about.
